There was a spy plane called SR-71 in the 80s. The fastest jet ever, with cruise speed at mach 3.5. That's "cruise" speed not max. And it could out run any missile fired at it.
It was estimated that the fleet faced at least 4,000 missile fires in its entire life time run. And it outran each and every one of them.
What happened next is that this plane was retired by 2000. The reason being Russia's S-300 missile. This one was capable of bringing the SR-71 down.
