Our sun is at least a 3rd generation star. Other stars have born and died before our sun. Actually 95% of all the stars that the Universe will ever produce have already been born and most of it died. We are living in an Universe which itself is in its very end life.
So how will it end? Big crunch? Big Rip? Heat death?
That's the mystery.
