Dark matter v Dark Energy:
Dark matter is an attracting force. Works in the galactic scale. It binds the stars of the galaxies together to form the galaxy. Otherwise the stars would have scattered away. Approximately one third of matters and energy of the universe is dark matter.
Dark energy on the other hand is a repulsive force. And works in the universal scale. This is the reason why the universe is expanding in an accelerated speed. Approximately two third of the all the energy in the universe is from dark energy.
Visible matter and energy out of this [ non-dark :-D ] are more like an exception in this calculation, counting towards only 5% to total.
