Outgoing US President Donald Trump apparently made a significant statement yesterday but nobody noticed – because everyone was distracted by his tiny desk.
Trump was announcing that he would leave the White House if the US Electoral College voted in favor of Joe Biden, as is expected. He also repeated his evidence-free claims of election fraud.
However, this message was drowned out social media by the fact that, for reasons unknown, Trump was sitting at a desk more suited to a schoolroom than a presidential press conference.
It didn’t take long for the jokes to flow. Some pointed out that, if Trump acted more responsibly over the election, he might be allowed at the grown-ups’ table. Others suggested that it was specifically chosen to make his allegedly undersized hands look bigger.
But perhaps the most realistic-sounding gag was that Trump had emptied the White House of all the good furniture before Biden moved in.
