After the sudden fall of Soviet Union in 1989, ex-USSR started to get disintegrated quickly with every country declaring its independence.
There were a few exceptions. Like Russia not agreeing to let free Ukraine. And then there were two ex-USSR states that started to fight with each other on border dispute as soon as they gained independence.
I didn't really care about those two countries at that time. Everything sounded like excess, and was happy that finally communism was over.
Now after 30 years I know that those two countries were Armenia and Azerbaijan fighting over their border. Azerbaijan lost large portion of their land to Armenia at that time. Which they have re-covered now.
The pic shows Azerbaijan's president opening an old mosque being held by Armenia for 30 years.
