A star exploding as captured by Hubble telescope over 4 years. The massive supergiant blue star turned into red giant after the explosion. The explosion was a nova, not supernova. Search "V838 Monocerotis" for details. Near Orion. 20 kLY distance. The star's radius was about 5 AU, upto Jupiter from Sun.
