Coffee makers in addition "filters" the coffee in last step passing it through a filter paper separating the ground [ কফির গুড়া ].
Q. Are grounds edible?
Short answer : yes.
Q. So what's Espresso?
There's a small electric water pump in Espresso machines to pump and jet stream the coffee while mixing with ground and filtering. This speeds up the process from above say 8 min to about 1 min.
