30 years of Iraq's invasion of Kuwait.
On this date in 1990, Saddam unexpectedly invaded and occupied Kuwait.
Why did he do it? No idea. Maybe he wanted to show Iraqis some win after he lost his 9 year war with Iran.
Maybe he wanted Kuwait's resources to pay off his war debt.
Or maybe he had something with Kuwait, like how Trump has something with China.
No idea.
But that event lead to USA taking a military footing in Saudi. Leading to the first gulf war. The first warfare where modern arms were shown off. Rise of CNN. And the drastic changes that has led us to this.
Did Suadi over react? Not necessarily. The fear was that Saddam won't restrict himself into Kuwait and will invade further south occupying saudi oil fields too which are all located on that side.
Memories. I wasn't a fan of Saddam. Rather disliked him.
BUT it's still a wonder how much Sunnis in Iraq still love him.
May be he was the hero we deserved, but not the one we needed.
Disliked him.
But God knew better which one was good for us.
