US : 4th of July. Today that is.
Relevant things I can remember on this date from the 80s and 90s, when I really cared about everything :
The film "Born on the 4th of July". Possibly based on someone's experience in Vietnam war. And it got pretty popular within the communists here. They hated the USA with a passion. Until the fall of communism of course. When I found they have all migrated to the USA. : -)
The second one was "Independence Day" another movie that got pretty popular and started the blockbuster genre. Alien invasion, who would save the world? but the USA. And they did it exactly on 4th on July. Making the independence day not only their independence day, but the independence day of the whole world. :V
