With all those RC model of real aircrafts like 747 and 737 being built and demoed flying around outdoors or large indoors, I was wondering how they were building those.
Figured out miniature aircraft jet engines are readily available for purchase. You build the fuselage and controls and ready to go. Someone even reviews one here.

Provides a 10 kg thrust. That's huge for such a small engine. Interesting to watch how jet engines now have turned into commodity toys.
So how much weight can a 10 kg thrust lift?
Figured that out. For a spanned wing aircraft it can lift double that weight, like 20 kg. But for better control thrust is kept at 70% of gross weight.
And for chopper like lift, the thrust should be 150% of the weight. But 200% gives better control.
And these engines consume petrol or diesel as fuel like real engine, not rechargeable batteries. Another plus. But fuel consumption is huge.
Add the fact that even rocket engines can also be mail ordered now a days. And people are building SpaceX like vertical landing rockets at home.
If I had been younger and had ample of time, maybe I would have given time behind it. Can't now. But it's nice to watch what's possible now a days.
