How To : Sit for O level exams as private candidate [not from any school]

1. Go to the British Council site and register here

https://www.britishcouncil.org.bd/en/exam/igcse-school/register/private-candidates

You need to select "O-level" and subjects that you want to attend.

You need to select at least 5 subjects. Preferably 7 to 9. But the top 5 scored subjects will count toward your higher education admittance.

2. Print the final form, which will provide you a total payable fee to submit. Take this form with pic of your son/daughter to any Standard Chartered bank and submit the fee. You might have to fill up another form there. Fee might be around 125 thousand for 6-7 subjects. Drop the application in a box in Bank marked as British Council. It's exactly the same as dropping it in council office. Will work. Don't worry.

3. British council will send you your admit card and exam schedule by courier/mail to your home address. If it's not collected in time, you need to go visit council office in Fuller Road [near Dhaka Versity] and collect it directly from there. They will hand it over to you as soon as you ask. Not much hassle.

Registration date is from Dec to Jan. You will get the admit card by March. Exams are on May/June.

4. Done. Next, on exam dates go to the corresponding centers and sit for the exams. You will find your results online as soon as it's ready and later the marksheet & certificates will be mailed to you too.

FAQ :

"Why would anyone sit as private candidate? And not from school?"

Might be necessary if
1. You want to skip a few years of schooling and complete the exam at a younger age.
2. Don't want to pay school fees, where they don't actually teach anything, and students have to study elsewhere.

"What if I sit from school regardless?"

You don't need any of the above then. The school will prepare everything.
