It once was the gold standard. Until everyone started to treat it as the gold standard. That's when bozos started to think my stupid paper will also be gold standard IF I can pay someone for peer review.
And then it wasn't anymore a gold standard.
That happens to all quality certificates once that gains popularity and acceptance within the masses.
