A380 was not economically viable. Consuming 20-30% more fuel per seat. And I thought those wide bodied aircrafts consume less fuel per seat which was the only reason they exist in the first place.

That leaves pilot and maintenance as only cost saving sectors, and it turned out to be more costly in those other sides too.

Reminds me of Boeing's 747. Initially when it was built, there was a bit concern it might not turn out to be a profitable passenger aircraft, which is why they kept a provision to fold open the plane like a cargo plane.

747 turned out to be a very profitable passenger plane now for 50 years. But that was it.
