Today's news, 25 million phones are infected in India by Agent Smith malware. This virus spreads through downloading of an already infected app. Therefore don't download apps using shareit. Only use AppStore and don't download apps that aren't backed by big corps. And you will be relatively safe.
App is FREE? Still Won't Use It :
It will most certainly contain ads, might contain adware to step outside its limit, might install background process - even if it's a Quran or Hadith app. Check how much reliable and technically sound the company is before using anyone's app.
Web Apps Are Still Safe :
And most of the tasks that we perform can be done using web apps.
Facebook Owns WhatsApp :
WhatsApp is no longer an independent team's very secure app that isn't sold out to government agencies -- since when Facebook purchased it. Facebook shares data with gov agencies. Presumably so does whatsapp.
