News : "40 years of Sony Walkman"
Released in the 80s, it was common to watch rich kids wearing a walkman hanging on his belt, and the headphone over his head. But these devices ran on two AA batteries [pencil batteries as we call these] which weren't rechargeable. Therefore anyone who bought one, could show it off to friends say for 30 minutes, after which he needed to buy a new pair of batteries. Even less time, if he rewinds or forwards the cassette to skip a music or jump to one. :V
The other term been made popular by Sony at that time was "Hi-Fi". Which actually meant High Fidelity. The playback sound regenerated a wide range of frequencies and therefore were more clear. Until the term got used to indicate a genre of kids called "hi-fi kids".
Anyway, now a days we all carry a Walkman in our pocket. Our mobile phone. Though I rarely use it for anything other than making calls. :V
