The theory is that earth's atmosphere extends upto 600k km from earth. These are mainly H atoms.
And moon's distance is 400k km. Therefore our moon orbits within earth's atmosphere.
The second conclusion from this is that no human has ever been able to travel beyond earth's atmosphere yet! Not even those that landed on the moon.
