Now a new IEEE ranking [well that sounds official, doesn't it? :-P ] puts C at top. A revival form the dead. Main reason might be embedded systems. aka, IoT, Internet of Things.
The same ranking also puts R ahead of C#. And Python ahead of both Ruby and PHP.
